(Ash Grove, MO) — They risk their lives on a daily basis to keep everyone else safe, and on Saturday local linemen were honored at the very first Climbing for Lost Linemen event held in Ash Grove, Missouri.
Linemen from across the country along with family members of fallen linemen, gathered to remember workers who lost their lives while restoring power.
Leticia Messley, who organized the event, says about 30 linemen die every year during work-related accidents.
“Our linemen work in very extreme conditions – extreme cold, extreme lightning, rain and hurricanes,” said Leticia Messley, Climbing for Lost Linemen founder.
Messley says many of the linemen across the country have already headed out to help restore power in areas hit by Hurricane Irene.
