National Sisterhood United for Journeymen Linemen’s 1st annual High Voltage 5k walk/run. This event literally stretched coast to coast with our “virtual run” option. A virtual one is where you sign up to run, just like a normal race but instead of showing up at a starting line, you walk/run your own route where ever you are. We had two main events; the main was in Vacaville, California and we had a last-minute addition in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. During the Vacaville event we had Nevada state representative, Sandy participate and help organize the silent auction. They also had the large privilege of Derek Graff attend and speak at the event. NSUJL has been providing support when it’s been needed since Derek’s accident on September 28th, 2012. Our event in Coeur d’Alene was a short notice event but the Northwest showed up and showed their support! Avista Co-Op and Kootenai Electric both brought bucket trucks and a digger truck to string along a Local 77 banner and the American flag. Mountain Power also showed up ready to run with a large group of 26 members! Mountain Power is also our first platinum sponsor of the Northwest, we thank you so much!!
Both events were given donations from NSUJL sponsors including Bashlin, Farwest, Lineman Barn, Linejunk, Locals 47, 77, 322, 396, 1245 and 125 to include in California’s silent auction and Idaho’s donation raffle. The first annual high voltage walk/run proved to be a success with over 100 registered runners! Be sure to keep an eye out for next years run, we’ll be hosting it in the Spring in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho but will be offering the virtual run option again. Here’s a few of our NSUJL virtual runner! Also shout out to member Hillary who ran in Cheshire, CT despite her broken foot!
