Rae Johnson was born in Iowa and is the daughter of a USMC Vietnam Vet who is an active Electrical Engineer in the Beaumont, Texas area. Rae first entered the trade in late 1997 when she answered the ad for a flagger with Asplundh Tree on Bybery rd in Philadelphia and became a member of IBEW Local 126. Rae advanced through the ranks quickly and ultimately wound up in outside electrical construction. Unfortunately, she suffered a work-related injury that required her to resign from the apprenticeship. Afterwhich, she applied to work at Penndot and was hired as TTEOA and joined AFSCME. Towards the end of 2011 she started to see an increase in accidents in her beloved trade and wanted to help the families. In 2012, Rae (husband Tom being local 1319) along with Terry Riffe in Florida (husband Bobby being Local 222) and Jessica Lackey (husband Phil being Local 66) got together and created what remains still today the only IBEW specific public charity that assists families with up to 12 months of financial aid and unlimited emotional support. Our ability to do so has been the direct result of the unwavering support from IBEW International, the Locals, the members, and a vast array of companies directly involved with the trade.
