My wife, Barb, and I live in Missouri. I have been a member of IBEW Local 53 in Kansas City for 43 years. I started as a Groundman/Operator in 1971. It didn’t take long to figure out that I wanted to be a Lineman. I applied was accepted and completed my apprenticeship through the Missouri Valley Line Constructors Apprenticeship & Training Program. In 1981, I ran and was elected as Chairman of our Executive Board. I went to work as an Organizer for the Local in 1994. Shortly after that I became a Business Representative and in 2006 became the Business Manager/Financial Secretary. In July of this year (2014), after 43 years of membership and 33 years of holding an office or position with the Local, I made the decision to retire. It was one of the hardest decisions that I have ever had to make but I decided it was time to spend some quality time with our 4 children and 10 grandchildren. It will also give Barb and I the opportunity to get on our Harley’s and see some of this great county we live in. I will continue to be involved with the Local, the IBEW and the NSUJL. I want to give back in any way that I can to these great organizations that have given so much to me and my family.
