NSUJL's Scholarship Program for Children of Fallen Lineworkers

NSUJL John Plante

John “JP” Plante was a Journeyman Lineman out of IBEW Local Union 104. He passed tragically on January 16th, 2012 due to a work-related incident. NSUJL was founded just 10 days after John Plante’s passing, in response to the realization that no organization existed to help linefamilies. This made NSUJL the first non-profit dedicated to assisting injured and fallen linemen and their families.

In JP’s honor, NSUJL offers a yearly college scholarship to age-appropriate children of fallen linemen. Currently, the John Plante Scholarship Fund is funded by PG&E.
Young adults aged 17-24 who are children of disabled or fallen linemen and who are currently applying to or attending college can apply for the John Plante Scholarship. Students who have previously been awarded this scholarship can reapply every year that they are attending school. Please review the application for full eligibility requirements.
Each year, NSUJL will award one scholarship from each of the following levels to help students offset the cost of tuition, room and board, travel expenses, tools, textbooks, etc.:

  • $1,000 for a student attending an apprenticeship program in any industry.
  • $1,500 for a student attending a community college or technical/trade school.
  • $2,500 for a student attending a college or university.

Applications submitted before March 31st of each year will be considered for the upcoming school year beginning in fall, and scholarships will be awarded by September 1st. Applications submitted after March 31st will be considered for the following school year.
